Independent Living Expectations at Beacon College

At Beacon College, we believe that learning to live independently is a vital part of the college experience. While we offer coaching and guidance to help students build these skills, we also expect them to take personal responsibility for their own self-care and daily routines.

This includes, but is not limited to: • Managing personal hygiene

• Keeping their residence hall or apartment clean and safe for shared living • Following health and safety standards that impact the entire community

These expectations apply to both apartment-style and traditional dorm-style housing . Maintaining a clean, hygienic living space is not simply a personal preference – it’s essential to the health and well-being of the student and those around them. When students struggle in these areas, staff step in with support and interventions. However, if a student is unable or unwilling to meet these basic responsibilities – even after support has been provided – the student may be required to take a leave from housing or from the College until they are ready to return to a communal living environment.

Abandoned Property

Residents are responsible for removing all personal belongings from their assigned residential space at the time of departure, including upon move-out, withdrawal from the College, termination of the housing contract, or removal from housing. Any personal property remaining in the residential space after a resident has vacated or departed will be considered abandoned property as defined by Florida Statutes Chapter 715. Upon departure when Abandoned Property is left by a Resident, Beacon
