COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Note: Students will be notified of any course cancellations and may register for an alternative course prior to the commencement of classes for the term. ANTHROZOOLOGY ANZ 1100 Introduction to Anthrozoology 3 credits This course is designed to familiarize students to the changing roles of animals in human society along with the complex relationship between humans and animals. (Co-requisite: ANZ 1100L). Course Fee ANZ 1100L Introduction to Anthrozoology Lab - Exploring Careers in Anthrozoology 1 credit This course explores the diverse career paths available to individuals with a degree in anthrozoology. Through guest lectures, case studies, and practical applications, students will be prepared to navigate the professional landscape and understand the impact of human-animal interactions in both theoretical and practical contexts. (Co-requisite: ANZ 1100). Course Fee ANZ 1150 Scientific Writing and Communications 3 credits This course will introduce students to formal scientific writing practices and provide a solid foundation in the fundamental concepts of scientific writing and communication to both scientists and citizens. Topics will include peer review paper structure, citing academic sources, how to develop editing and reviewing skills, and how to craft effective research and outreach talks. Course Fee ANZ 1326 Florida Ecology and Conservation 3 credits Students will use the scientific method to address questions about wild Florida, including general ecology, wildlife, and conservation of Florida wildlife through an anthrozoological lens. Course Fee ANZ 1326L Florida Ecology and Conservation Lab 1 credit This field-based course emphasizes recognition of common ecosystems and wildlife of Central Florida and their habitats. Natural and artificial biological communities will be visited. Students will engage in recording qualitative and quantitative data as well as technical reporting of research activities. Course Fee ANZ 2200/ANZ 2200L Principles of Organismal Biology I w/Lab 4 credits Students will be introduced to the comparative study of life processes (metabolism, growth, reproduction, etc.) as it relates to animal physiology. Course Fee ANZ 2201/ANZ2201L Principles of Organismal Biology II w/Lab 4 credits Students will be introduced to the diversity of the vertebrate and invertebrate animal families through comparative study of structure-function relationships. (Prerequisite: ANZ 2200/ANZ2200L) Course Fee ANZ 2300/ANZ2300L Principles of Animal Husbandry w/Lab 4 credits Students will explore skills needed for successful animal management practices, including sanitation, safety, zoonosis, and handling/restraint. . (Prerequisite: ANZ 1100/1100L). Course Fee ANZ 2400 Fundamentals of Zoology 3 credits Students will be introduced to the diversity of the vertebrate and invertebrate animal families through a comparative study of structure-function relationships. (Prerequisite: ANZ 2200/ANZ2200L) Course Fee ANZ 3000 Conservation Psychology 3 credits This course introduces the student to the relationship between core psychological theories and patterns and their impact on human behavior from a conservation lens. Course Fee ANZ 3010 Insect-Human Interactions 3 credits This course explores the multifaceted relationship between humans and insects, analyzing both the positive and negative impacts insects have on human life, culture, and society.
