As a studio art major at Beacon College, you will learn to think like an artist in a close-knit community that fosters creativity. You’ll begin with the foundations of studio work while expressing yourself through drawing, painting, photography, sculpture and ceramics.

Your studies will combine comprehensive hands-on experience with the conceptualization, design, and production of works of art expected at a professional level. A Bachelor of Arts in Studio Arts from Beacon College will prepare you for a career in the creative arts. The professional portfolio you create during your time at Beacon will open doors to jobs as an independent artist or an employee with a business, creative agency or cultural arts organization. We also prepare you to pursue an advanced degree in the arts.

An increasing number of Beacon College students are choosing to combine their Studio Arts interests with a major or minor in Anthrozoology . They are using this creative combination to pursue such careers as an animal habitat designer. This minor provides an understanding of the human-animal bond, along with background in animal husbandry, conservation and humane education.

Why You’ll Love Studying Studio Arts at Beacon Whether your passion is painting or photography, drawing or sculpture, you’ll be encouraged to explore a variety of mediums and art methods to better develop your own ideas and skills. You’ll learn in a community alongside fellow emerging artists and work closely with gifted and nationally recognized faculty- artists who bring years of experience to your studies. They will inspire and nurture your growth and creativity. Inspiring Spaces Explore the arts in Beacon’s fully equipped art studios, which includes a wood workshop, metal workshop, glass and ceramic kilns, a drawing/painting studio and mixed-use studios. You’ll also have the opportunity to view and participate in gallery exhibits in our Kristin Michelle Mason Art Gallery, which features the work of guest artists, faculty members and studio art majors. Hands-on Training Nothing compares to learning on the job. Our Studio Arts majors are required to complete two internships. The knowledge, skills and experience you gain — in the classroom and through internships — will boost your résumé and your confidence with real-world, real-work experience.
