Structures of the Conduct System

It is the policy of the Division of Student Affairs to establish a procedure for non academic issues of student misconduct.

A conduct meeting is the forum in which a student is given the opportunity to respond to a minor conduct allegation against them and to present information in support of their case. Conduct Hearing Officers are responsible for hearing cases, considering witness statements, and determining which sanctions to impose. The Conduct Hearing Officer assigned may be a Resident Director, the Conduct Coordinator, the Director of Housing and Residence Life, or the Dean of Students. In instances of a major conduct allegation where suspension or expulsion from the College is a possible outcome, the Dean will organize and facilitate a Student Conduct Committee who will meet with students and/or witnesses when they have been involved in an alleged policy violation. Any member of the College community, including students, administrators, faculty, and staff may bring a potential violation to the attention of the Dean, or their designee. To initiate a case, the complainant must submit a referral through the online form: https://cm.maxient.com/reportingform.php?BeaconCollege. The referral will then be sent to the Dean, or their designee. The Dean, or a designee, will determine whether further fact-finding is warranted. If the Dean, or their designee, determines that further fact-finding is necessary, they will provide to the respondent student the alleged violation(s), corresponding charge(s), and the next steps of the conduct process. The Dean, or their designee, will then conduct an investigation, taking statements from individuals associated with the alleged misconduct and collecting relevant evidence.
