constitute an exhaustive list of punishable offenses but rather prescribes standards to guide individual choices. Students or organizations who violate these standards and are found responsible will be subject to disciplinary sanctions in order to promote their own personal development, to promote the college community, and to maintain order and stability on campus. Being a member of the college community is a privilege, and the conduct process will determine if a student’s conduct warrants modification of or restriction upon that privilege. The Student Code of Conduct outlines behavioral standards developed by the Beacon College community for students and student organizations and the related procedures for addressing misconduct. Students should be aware that the student conduct process is not a criminal or civil court proceeding. Students and student organizations are responsible for actions that constitute misconduct and violate the Code of Student Conduct.  We value a student-first approach to conduct matters; we prefer to engage students in educational dialogue about personal and community responsibility, consequences for actions, and civility.  We believe students in college are adults and should be treated as such; as an adult, there are consequences to actions.  We believe that student behavior is an opportunity to develop responsible citizens and help students learn about themselves, their choices, and how their actions may impact a community. This is an educational and developmental process and allows us to engage students and have meaningful conversations with them.  Based on our philosophy described above, conduct meetings are most effective conducted in 1-on-1 setting. For policy violations which may result in college suspension or expulsion, students will have the opportunity to meet with the Student Conduct Committee in lieu of a 1-on-1 meeting.
