At Beacon, our “themed humanities” approach features unique and exciting courses unified by specific year-long themes. Classes are team-taught by faculty from various disciplines to bring you diverse perspectives and insights. To make a difference in our world, you have to understand our world. Humanities focuses on reading, writing, history, culture and civilization. The Humanities major offers more flexibility and choice in course selection than most other majors, allowing students to explore a wide range of subjects while developing crucial and marketable skills, such as cultural awareness, communication and problem solving. As a humanities major at Beacon, you’ll work on teams with other students tackling challenging real-world issues. You’ll use role playing to develop skills and abilities to creatively solve global problems. With our strong emphasis on hands-on experience, you won’t have to wait to make an impact.

A Psychology Minor will give you an understanding of the “how and why” of human behavior — an important base of knowledge for all types of employment settings, including education, business, criminal justice, and the health professions.

Hands-on Training Nothing compares to learning on the job. As a student, you will participate in two real-life, semester-long work experiences. You’ll also have opportunities to work on faculty research projects and accompany faculty to conferences to present research findings. The knowledge, skills, and experience you gain — in the classroom, through research, and at internships — will boost your resume and your confidence with real-world, real-work experience.

Program Requirements A.A. in Humanities

This program of study requires the completion of a total of 61 credits, with 18 credits in the major. The Associate of Arts degree in Humanities provides students with an educational foundation before entering the work force or pursuing the bachelor’s degree.
