At Beacon College, the Bachelor of Science in Anthrozoology explores the extraordinary relationships and interactions people have with animals. Our interdisciplinary program combines science and theory so you will learn how to: • Think like a scientist •Use critical thinking skills to evaluate situations involving animals •Understand scientific ideas and concepts •Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of animal husbandry, animal behavior and zoonosis (diseases that can be transmitted from animals to humans) •Create solutions leading to more positive interactions and relationships between human and animals, and change misconceptions and fears

Career IN ANTHROZOOLOGY A

Anthrozoology is the fascinating study of how people and animals interact. Exploring the ever-changing role of animals helps us to understand the vital relationship that animals play in our daily lives and culture.

An Anthrozoology minor also is available to any Beacon student. The minor provides a broad view of animal behavior and human interactions with other species.

Impact Beyond Campus At Beacon, our Anthrozoology students present at professional conferences, including the International Society for Anthrozoology’s annual conference. Some have even authored and published research papers.

WHY YOU’LL LOVE STUDYING ANTHROZOOLOGY AT BEACON

Interacting, studying and caring for animals will be part of your daily life as an anthrozoology major. You’ll study with other students who are passionate about animals, working with expert faculty with deep experience in the field. On-campus resources include domesticated animals, small mammals, birds, snakes, amphibians, fish and more. Off-campus, you’ll observe animals their natural environment, from alligators to birds of prey. Expand Your Career Horizons You can extend the career value and marketability of your Anthrozoology degree by adding a minor in another field, such as education, hospitality or entrepreneurship. Beacon College students have combined an interest in studio arts with a major or minor in Anthrozoology to pursue careers as animal habitat designers.

Career Paths Students earning a B.S. in Anthrozoology can immediately begin working in the field or continue on to graduate school for advanced study in animal behavior or conservation biology. This degree provides solid preparation for students to work with a multitude of animals (domestic and exotic) in zoos, aquariums, animal shelters and nature centers, or for careers in animal training, wildlife conservation or animal welfare. Other potential career paths include:

• Animal behavior specialist • Animal care professional • Animal control officer • Conservation educator • Naturalist • Public policy and advocacy

Our location close to Orlando offers opportunities aquariums, and other animal parks and attraction

Hands-on Learning You will have access to special learning opportunities through our close relationships with area employers and organizations that work with animals. In addition to on-campus experiences, you will participate in hands-on learning at area zoos, rescue shelters, stables, farms and other locations. You’ll study zoology at ZooTampa, conservation at our nearby Weiner Estate campus, and animal welfare at Lake County Animal Shelter. All anthrozoology majors also are required to complete an internship. We work with you to identify and secure an internship in your interest area. If you prefer to complete a summer internship, we will work with you to identify an internship close to your home or at a location of interest to you. Recent Internships
