Located in central Florida in the heart of downtown Leesburg (approximately an hour from Orlando), Beacon enrolls nearly 450 students from across the country. Beacon is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). The College offers more than a dozen bachelor’s and associate degrees in such areas as anthrozoology, business management computer information systems, human services, interdisciplinary studies, psychology and studio arts, plus an intensive four-year career development model.

ABOUT BEACON’S TRANSITION CENTER Providing innovative and proactive transition programming based on student skill-based needs Beacon’s Transition Center offers intentional, family-centered programs that provide psychoeducation, strategies, and experiences to prepare students and parents for life after high school. Programs include:

MEET THE DIRECTOR

This three-week campus immersion experience focuses on giving current high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who learn differently the skills, confidence and preparation to successfully transition to college. A virtual six-month program for current high school juniors to proactively begin their college search and application process and prepare for the transition to college through personalized coaching and hands-on activities. The country’s first virtual transition-to-college program engaging both students and parents. Available up to nine months before entering any college in the nation, Navigator PREP proactively addresses the executive functioning, social, and emotional regulation deficits that impede college success. Beacon Foundations is designed for students to focus on their academic success without the added stresses of adjusting to campus life. Core academic courses and skill-building support services help each student lay the building blocks for college success – while earning critical first- year college credits.

Alexander (Alex) Morris-Wood, MS Dean of Admissions, Transition Programs, and Strategic Outreach Shortly after joining Beacon from the private school sector, Alex helped create the Transition Center and Beacon’s Navigator PREP initiative. Alex has presented nationally and internationally on topics such as systemic barriers in higher education for students with learning disabilities, family systems theory, and strategies to improve transitional outcomes for at-risk students. Recently, Alex was identified among the Top 100 Educational Leaders in America by the Global Forum for Education and Learning. He holds a master’s degree in mental health counseling where he focused on adjustment disorders for students with learning differences entering college environments.
