Meet Your Beacon Transition Counselor Introductory calls before starting Navigator PREP so students can get to know their assigned Beacon transition counselor. Introduction to College Academics Students complete two non-credit 8-week virtual classes introducing them to the expectations of college coursework. Participation is optional but highly encouraged. Each 1-hour class is recorded so it can be watched (or rewatched) at a later time. Monthly one-on-one Zoom meetings between individual students and their Beacon transition counselor to discuss skills, assignments and areas of progress and need. Sessions are individually scheduled. (1 hour) Student Virtual Hang-Out (Group Chat) Monthly virtual gatherings for students to get to know their fellow Nav PREPers and have fun! Student/Counselor Check-Ins Brief check-ins to review assignments and discuss next steps. (30-45 minutes) • Session I — Writing • Session 2 —Math Student Close-Up Sessions

Live & Interactive Parent Sessions Monthly one-on-one Zoom sessions with an assigned Beacon Navigator PREP counselor to discuss activities, progress and areas of concern. (30-45 minutes) Parent Workshops The College To Do List. Many college transition tasks are date-driven. Parents will consider the impact of time-sensitive tasks and receive practical tips on planning and prioritizing their completion. Who Are You Going to Call? It’s important to understand your role in communicating with the college your student attends — from addressing expectations and establishing and maintaining boundaries. Ready for a Change? The first few years of college expose students to new ideas and self-discovery. Are you prepared to have a conversation with your student if they decide to change their major or want to change colleges? Home for the Holidays. Is your student prepared to plan for and travel home alone? Parents will discuss how to support student independence.

“How to” Family Series: The College Search in Action

Interactive hour-long workshops for parents and students that focus on how to conduct a successful college search, including: • How to Navigate the College Accommodation Process • How to Understand College Policies (HIPAA, FERPA, Title IX, Code of Conduct) • How to Build Distress Tolerance and Avoid Regression • How to Navigate Novel Situations from the Parent and Student Perspective In addition, families can receive one-on-one support in applying to colleges. A Personalized Review At the end of the program, families receive a summary report from their transition counselor that provides a detailed review — including insights and recommendations for next steps.

How Much Time Is Required? Students typically spend 2.5 to 3.5 hours a week on Navigator PREP activities and assignments. Many say their experiences and new skills have a beneficial

“ripple effect” on their high school studies. Parents can expect to spend approximately 1.5 hours a week on Navigator PREP.

COST The inclusive cost for Navigator PREP Spring 2025 is $2,450. Information on financial assistance for eligible families is available upon request.
